Over the years, AA Restaurant Guides have rated Phil Vickery one of the top 20 chefs in Britain. He is known for his unpretentious style and great British puddings.
Born in Folkestone, Kent, Phil trained in the Lake District before working at Gravetye Manor in West Sussex and Restaurant 74 in Canterbury. He then moved to Taunton in Somerset and became the head chef at the Castle Hotel. where he won four Michelin stars in a row.
In 2000, Phil co-founded The Food Bureau with partner and friend Steven Poole, spending 5 years travelling all over the world developing many dishes and recipes ideas for high profile companies. A spin off was the Seriously Good Food company specialising in hand-crafted Christmas and winter puddings, that have Prince Charles’s Royal Warrant.
Phil has written six books to critical acclaim, and is currently writing his seventh. He also writes for many magazines, articles and is a member of The Guild Of Food Writers.
Also, he has been a regular chef on BBC’s Ready Steady Cook for 10 years, resident chef on ITV’s This Morning for the past 8 years, as well as 85 stand alone films, all over the UK and visiting 14 countries. Food history food films and food for kids are a speciality of Phil’s, including a BBC film on the Somerset wallfish, the famous west country snail. Phil is a regular contributor to Radio Five Live and BBC breakfast programme.
